🪔 Hello, it's a pleasure to have you back here! Keep going to expand your knowledge of tools that bring well-being and balance to your life!
At Rita Uttara, we love to delve into the wonderful world of women's health and wellness. And what better way to do so than by exploring the wise knowledge of Ayurveda ? Yes, we're talking about those mysterious and fascinating doshas that are part of this ancient Eastern healing tradition.
When we mention the word dosha, we're referring to the energy that was imbued within you when your mom and dad conceived you. From then on, you came into the world with particular characteristics that make you unique. This, at the same time, makes you "predictable" according to Ayurveda, which, as we mentioned in a previous post, is an ancient healing practice originating in India that aims to balance the body, mind, and spirit to achieve a full and healthy life. It is recognized as the first documented system of medicine in the world.
Other synonyms for the term "dosha":
- Biotype
- Metabolic type
- Constitution
- Body type
Why do we say it makes you "predictable"?
Because by knowing your dominant dosha, you can know what health imbalances you will experience, how your mind works, what challenges dominate your life, and even how you live your menstrual cycle and what your menopause could be like. We will publish a new post about this to go into more depth and thus you will better understand what this healthy lifestyle offers you.
Getting back to...
In other words, imagine the doshas as the secret ingredients that make up your unique and personal recipe. In Ayurveda, each person is believed to be composed of a unique combination of three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. These doshas represent different aspects of our physical and mental makeup, spiritual aspects, and the soul. Understanding them helps us better understand how we can stay in harmony with ourselves and the world around us.
Taking as a reference the five elements that exist in nature—air, ether, fire, water, and earth—and that also inhabit us because we are part of it, your dominant dosha can generally be one of these three:
- Vata (combination of ether and air)
- Pitta (mixture of fire and water)
- Kapha (union of water and earth)
Also keep in mind that all doshas or energies are present in you, to a greater or lesser degree.
Let's start with Vata , the dosha of air and ether. If you identify with Vata, you're likely creative, energetic, and full of brilliant ideas. However, you may also experience challenges related to anxiety, restlessness, and irregularity in your daily life. But don't worry! With some balancing practices, such as meditation, gentle yoga, and a nutritious and comforting diet, you can calm the Vata storm and find the inner peace you crave.
Then we have Pitta , the dosha of fire and water. If you're a person with a strong Pitta presence, you're likely ambitious, passionate, and full of determination. But beware, because you may also have a tendency to be critical of yourself and others, and experience irritability or excess heat in your body. The key here is balance! Try practicing gratitude, cooling, and moderation in your life, along with a refreshing and relaxing diet, to keep that fiery Pitta at bay and shine with a softer, gentler fire.
Last, but definitely not least, is Kapha, the dosha of earth and water. If Kapha is your dominant dosha, you're likely a calm, patient, and loving person, with a stable and reliable disposition. However, you may also experience challenges related to a lack of motivation, resistance to change, and a tendency toward lethargy or complacency. But don't worry! With a little movement, stimulation, and a balanced, energizing diet, you can awaken Kapha's inner energy and find that vitality and enthusiasm you crave.
